Amherst College 2020
Landscape Master Plan

Amherst, Massachusetts
1997

Amherst College 2020 is a vision for the third century of a 110 acre New England campus, based on thorough site assessment and response to three goals: expression of campus character; enhancement of pedestrian friendly spaces; and management of vehicles. Main Quad proposals extend the pedestrian precinct, open views toward Memorial Hill and rationalize parking. Campus Center area proposals create a new quadrangle. Athletic field proposals delineate transition zones with an overlook terrace, hillside orchard and tree plantings. North west quadrant proposals enhance campus identity and image with entryway realignment, Converse Hall frontage improvements and parking lot screening. Implemented projects include: upper and lower campus linkage, new sitting areas, Webster Circle reconstruction, Webster-Kirby expansion, athletic facilities and Frost Library terrace.
