Davies Farmstead
Cultural Landscape Master Plan and Design

Westfield, Massachusetts
1996

The 300 acres stretching beyond a former eighteenth century tavern in Westfield, Massachusetts comprise typical components of a Colonial New England farm landscape: woodlands, wetlands and streams, open pastures, meadows and early successional fields. DDA assessed this property and developed proposals to accommodate modern usage, improve sustainability and enhance landscape character. Schematic design proposals included a walled entry courtyard, fenced dooryard garden, a new barn, vegetable gardens, roadway realignments and an impoundment.

Shown below are the impounded pond and barn complex, in accord with DDA’s Master Plan. The smaller garden barn and garden house were designed by DDA Associate, Kim Erslev, AIA.
