Oak Grove is a 50-acre Victorian style cemetery with the need to expand into its last 7.5-acre parcel of undeveloped land. DDA’s design for such expansion continues the Cemetery’s historic organizational pattern, materials and details in a way responsive to natural constraints and new user requirements. Parallel turf roadways will be laid out as before. A signature cobble wall will enclose the parcel as before. Granite and cobble copings will define family plots as before. All the while, the Plan preserves existing mature Beech trees and conserves wooded hillsides, which will be a distinctive feature of the new area. Lending distinction, too, are a rustic chapel pavilion, columbarium garden, loop trails and an overlook. A cobble and timber lynch gate may be added in the future, evoking its traditional ceremonial use and marking the entry to the new-but-old Oak Grove landscape.
